Birmingham Society

Set in a church hall, which is to be demolished and turned into profitable commercial property by unscrupulous developers, who are colluding with underhanded local councillors.

The church hall was given over to youngsters after the Second World War and has for years been overseen by a kindly old vicar.

We meet life at the club as it is being used as a youth theatre. A play is being rehearsed, with the principal part being acted by Hannah, who also wrote the play, and is directing it.

However, the hall has been home for a boy who took refuge there during a bombing raid in the Second World War. The hall suffered damage during the raid but was repaired soon afterwards. Since then, the boy has watched the activities and people over the years in the life of the hall.
